The Apple superfan writes for iPhonemod.net, a Thai news blog about the smartphones. He chronicled his entire journey on Facebook, from grabbing a midnight snack at McDonald's to the magical moment his new phone was in the palms of his hands.
He got an earlier start than most, claiming his spot nearly 20 hours before the Apple Store on George Street was expected to open its doors at 8 a.m.
The wait was made a little better by the company of a few Apple employees, who hung out with the people in the queue.
As day turned to night, iPhone buyers braced for the challenge. Tents were pitched and ready outside the glass doors of the store.
And at some point, Thaphaengphan was able to sneak away for a little sit-down dinner with friends.
There was also some late-night entertainment, which mostly involved looking at his online reservation (it's still there right?) and gazing at an empty Apple store.
All the while, a few people chatted away while lying on the floor in sleeping bags.
As the grand reveal grew closer, Thaphaengphan refueled with a hot chocolate from the McDonald's next door.
Then, it was back to the line. It rained a bit in the morning but Thaphaengphan was again unfazed, rising to the challenge with an umbrella and a heart of patience.
And then, finally, it was all worth it: "Now iPhone 7 is Here!," he captioned his first snap of the brand new smartphone.
Like any good superfan, he fawned over the colors and variations of the iPhone 7 —from Apple's signature rose gold to the now sold-out, much coveted jet black.
After days of travel and hours of waiting, the moment had come.
Across the globe, from Singapore to LA and countless cities in between, the iPhone 7's Sept. 16 launch has been met with hard work and devotion. Queues of hundreds of buyers have lined the streets in cities around the world, camping out in the name of Apple's latest, and hopefully, greatest smartphone — even if the $159 wireless AirPods take some time getting used to.
